Re: Building Contract
Lot 5-B, Stairway to the Stars
Tres Rios, Costa Rica
Dear Matt:
I am writing to express my and Jeanie’s gratitude for the thoroughly professional manner in which you managed the construction of our casita in Tres Rios. From the beginning, you hung in there with us as we modified our plans, downsizing the project to fit our budget. Jeanie certainly knew what she wanted, but you were able to turn her ideas into reality. We could not be more pleased with the outcome.
The casita is beautiful, and the attention to detail is truly remarkable in such a modestly priced structure.
Your idea to use pre-formed concrete walls saved us so much money and actually had a sturdier result. I was amazed at the close tolerances, the perfectly plumbed windows, the fitted corners, the abundance of electrical outlets and the bordered threshhold. The loft area turned out even better than we envisioned and the stained wood flooring is beautiful. I so appreciated, for example, the fine craftsmanship of the loft ladder with the thick tongue-in-grove steps and in-set pegged screw holes. Similarly, the cabinet work in the kitchen was of the highest quality. You must have a truly exceptional carpenter.
The cantilevered deck is strong and very functional. It is our favorite space and is a little window into the jungle. We watched Howler Monkeys cavorting in the trees not fifty feet from us and two families of Toucan’s visited us a couple of times a week. The stone wall supporting the small hillock adds character to the space and you figured out a perfect solution to the gas tank for the stove. Hiding it under a trap door off the deck was such a great idea.
Let me also say a word about the bathroom. It turned out so much better than I anticipated. I’ve been in many hotels in Costa Rica, including three, four and five star facilities, where the bathrooms were smaller and not as esthetically pleasing. We love the walk in shower and the open feel the glass panel provides. That up-grade was well worth the modest cost. And the outdoor shower…perfect for when we returned from the beach. The tiled base was a nice touch as well!
It was a pleasure getting to know you and your lovely wife, Laura, and we look forward to a time when we can move to Costa Rica permanently.
Best regards,
Warren
